Where Would We Be Without Mum?

April 16, 2019 — Mother always knows best, especially in freshman Katelyn Hernandez’s case. Her mom is her number-one supporter. Katelyn’s mom was always there for her when she was a kid, she molded her into the person she is today.

Katelyn’s mom supported her in many ways, even when her dad couldn’t. Such as with NJROTC, an organization that Katelyn is very proud to be a part of. “She was always there for me when my dad wasn’t, so she supported me twice as hard.” Her parents’ divorce made it hard for her dad to be around, but he is still immensely supportive of Katelyn and whatever she decides to do in life.

That is not to say her and her mom always agree though. Katelyn’s mom did want her to do something else besides ROTC, she wanted her to take sign language classes ”so I could have more job opportunities.” But she decided to do ROTC instead because she is more passionate about that. And her mom has supported her through and through as a result.

“When I was a kid, my mom was my superhero,” and today, while she doesn’t wear the cape, she’s still Katelyn’s number-one supporter.
