Feeling Proud as an Indian American

Yash Patel is proud of his culture as an Indian American

May 8, 2019 — Yash Patel is a student of Indian heritage who is proud of his culture and shows it. His family is from India, and he is a member of the Indian Student Association on campus. Yash enjoys the school due to the cultural diversity he sees. He believes that it makes the school a better and more interesting place.

 

“I’m in the ISA club, it represents my culture and there is a lot of diversity at this school so I want to show my nationality.” Yash enjoys being able to express his culture and is proud to do it. He takes great pride in his culture and represents it whenever possible.

 

Although he has only been to India once, it is a trip he will never forget. “When I was 10, I went to India and celebrated my birthday there. It was super fun, it was my first time there too.” Being able to travel to the place his culture originates made him ecstatic. He found joy in everything there, including the music.

 

In his spare time, Yash finds himself listening to Bollywood music. Bollywood music is like Indian pop and is very popular in India. “I like Bollywood music, I can understand it and I think it sounds good.” He sees it as an expression of his culture, and he also just enjoys listening to it.

 

Yash’s culture is important to him. He’s proud of it, and likes to share that with others. It’s a part of his identity. It’s a core part of what makes him who he is and how he acts.
