Welcome!  The upcoming year offers a great opportunity for your child.  Last year our school changed the gifted model for fifth grade and this year our school added fourth grade into the gifted cluster model.  Your 5th grader will experience this year in a full-time gifted curriculum with Mrs. Cooper teaching Math and Science, while my focus is on Social Studies and Language Arts.  Just as they did in fourth grade, we will be splitting the day.

The curriculum incorporates differentiation and project-based learning, with a variety of activities which meet or exceed state standards in math, literacy, science and social studies. The kids are going to love it!  It will combine the gifted, writing, STEM, and reading areas.
Students will use the following learning strategies during our year:

♦ Creative Thinking Skills ♦ Critical Thinking Skills
♦ Student Planning Strategies ♦ Student Self-Evaluation Skills
♦ Academic Achievement ♦ Problem Based Learning
♦ Student Independence ♦ Problem Solving Skills

Volunteers: Volunteers are always welcome! If you would like to come to our class, just let us know. Although the Gifted program is not a traditional classroom, volunteers are still welcome and encouraged!

Be sure to complete the OCPS ADDITIONS Application if you would like to volunteer at Stone Lakes.

Gifted Education Learning Goals: Be sure to read over the guidelines for gifted education on this page: Gifted Education Learning Goals.
