Community Service

Community Service is defined as identifying a social issue in the community and using your time to help create a positive effect on others. This requires students to look beyond themselves and reach out to an issue faced by our society (i.e. poverty, abuse, elderly citizen rights, etc.). These hours will meet the requirement for the Florida Academic Scholars, Florida Medallion Scholars or Gold Seal Vocational scholarships. The completed hours will be recorded on the transcript of the student. For more information on what qualifies as community service check the powerpoint linked below.

Community Service Powerpoint

In order to complete their community service hours students must complete the Community Service application (Below) and be approved by their counselor. Steps to receive Community Service hours are as follows:

  2. Once approved, complete your hours and log them on the sheet provided.
  3. Write a post-essay and turn the entire packet into your counselor. The post essay must touch on how your services benefited the community and how you have grown as a result of the service.

Teen Ambassador Program at the Dr. Phillips Center

The Teen Ambassadors are a vibrant group of teenagers that have unique leadership opportunities through their participation. In monthly meetings, the Teen Ambassadors learn about the nonprofit business model and discover a variety of careers in the arts. They get behind the scenes opportunities as well as access to performances, master classes, workshops and community engagement. The goal of the program is to develop leadership, writing and communication skills. They contribute ideas and work to develop and promote their ideas, often taking over the arts center’s social media channels and creating their own promotional materials. The Teen Ambassadors serve as an important part of the School of the Arts and the Dr. Phillips Center. Regardless of a student’s experience level in the arts, we welcome any student who is willing to learn!
