Game Design Project

LEARNING GOAL:  Students will learn how to design a game following the six step design process, applying them to concept development and game development.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:  Design and produce a playable computer game consisting of all aspects of game design covered in the game design course.

CRITERIA:  The game should be playable through at least one level with scoring.  It should include a front end, scoring, a message with a game reset.

CONSTRAINTS: You must use the game assets provided for you, and develop a game using those assets.  The game can be for one or two players.    You must create at least one graphical asset of your own.  The game must be school appropriate.  Any other assets must be permissible.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:  You must document the six step design process on the “SIX STEPS” download worksheet. The documentation would include concept document and storyboard documents, as well as documeentation of alpha and beta testing The design process documentation must be assembled into a three prong folder and/or submitted electronically.

ASEESSMENT:  This project will be graded based on a 200 point rubric. Click the rubric link to review assessment.

AUDIO ASSET: CREATE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND MUSIC – USE “SOUNDATION” TO CREATE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND MUSIC AND RHYTHMS.  EXPORT AS A .wav FILE.  THE DURATION SHOULD BE BETWEEN 20 AND 25 SECONDS.  REOPEN THE FILE IN AUDACITY AND EXPORT IT AS AN .mp3 FILE.   ADD IT TO YOUR GAME RESOURCES IN GAME MAKER AND SET THE LOOP PROPERTIES FOR SOUNDS TO “TRUE”.
