Book Review: The Lightning Thief

by Thiago Rego

“The Lighting Thief”, a best seller of The New York Times is the first book of many in the series “Percy Jackson and The Olympians”, written by Rick Riordan. The story talks about a 12-year-old boy named Percy Jackson, with an attention deficiency disorder.

After being expelled again from yet another school, Percy begins to encounter mythical creatures who left a book of Greek mythology. Those creatures do not seem to be very happy with the boy’s presence. After some duels with the creatures Percy finds out about a special training camp for people like him, a demi-god (Half God, half human). Upon receiving a mission to rescue the stolen master lightning of Zeus, Percy and his friends Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase go on the search for the stolen lightning.

In my opinion, The Lighting Thief is a book full of details, with a lot of action and fantasy. The way that it is written doesn’t make the story boring. The book attracts your attention through all pages and manages to blend reality, history, and fantasy into an incredible combination.

You will definitely want to read the entire series of Percy Jackson and The Olympians.
