Movie Calendar November Edition

Greetings and Salutations my Movie Newbies! Here are the movie releases for the month of November where we highlight the most anticipated movies, so you know what movie you’re seeing the next time you go to the theater. And a Happy Halloween! Thanksgiving is on its way…

These are the movie posters of all the films discussed in this edition of Movie Calendar.

Thor: Ragnarok Rated PG-13(November 2nd)

This is the third installment of the Thor movies starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor along with Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo reprising their roles as Loki and the Hulk. Other actors also appearing in the film include Cate Blanchett as Hela and newcomer Valkyrie being played by Tessa Thompson. So many factors go into making these movies as good as they are, with spectacular acting, directing and sets. Even the costumes and design for this movie, like all Marvel movies, is excellent!

The setting and place of Ragnarok on the MCU timeline is unclear, and the directors will not elaborate on the exactly when which gives them more freedom with the film. We do know, however that it takes place after Avengers: Age of Ultron and during or around Captain America: Civil War.

This movie takes place almost entirely in space, where Thor has been imprisoned and is being forced to fight Gladiator style. There he is pit against the Hulk and the two join forces and race against the evil force that is Hela, who has set out to destroy Thor’s homeworld and the Asgardian people. They also clear some confusion from the last Marvel movies and set the tone for future ones. This movie is a must see for action, sci-fi, comedy lovers, and marvel die-hard fans or really anyone who enjoys a good film!

The Killing of a Sacred Deer Rated R(November 3rd)

This movie stars Colin Farrell as Dr. Steven Murphy, he plays a renowned cardiovascular surgeon who lives a seemingly perfect life with his wife and two kids in a spotless household. Enter a disgruntled teen, Martin, who gradually assimilates into the doctor’s life in unsettling ways. His intent slowly becomes menacingly clear, which means the end of Steven’s domestic paradise when he is confronted.

The film is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos; this Greek director’s most notable work is The Lobster. He works again with Colin Farrell who is known for many roles, the Irish actor, acting most recently in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The Lobster, and The Beguiled. The surgeon’s wife is played by Nicole Kidman, the Australian actress who also has a long acting career, has starred in movies from Lion to Moulin Rouge! Martin is played by a newer actor– Barry Keoghan, who played a role in Dunkirk.

This film is very interesting and if you enjoy a good psychological and thrilling movie, you should see it. The Killing of a Sacred Deer has already received some acclaim and has an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes!

Murder on the Orient Express Rated PG-13(November 10th)

The film is about a murder that occurs on a train full of people, boarding the carriage is detective Hercule Poirot who has to compete with time to solve the case and determine the culprit before they strike again. This adaptation is based off the murder mystery book of the same title. If you aren’t familiar with the book, it was written by Agatha Christie as a detective novel featuring the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

The cast in this film is purely star-studded beyond comparison! Since the list is immense, only the actors playing the main characters will be discussed. First up on a long and impressive cast list is Kenneth Branagh, who plays Hercule, this Northern Irish actor has been in Dunkirk most recently, Cinderella, and Hamlet. Next is Daisy Ridley, who is a fairly new actress who headlined in one of the largest grossing movies of all time– Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She is playing Mary Debenham in the film. Last but certainly not least is Johnny Depp who is portraying Ratchett. Depp is a legend and is known for playing some very interesting roles and working with director Tim Burton. He is the star of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and was also featured in Black Mass and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, to name a few. Along with these actors, comes an incredible list: Michelle Pfeiffer as Mrs. Hubbard, Dame Judi Dench as Princess Dargomiroff, Penelope Cruz as Pilar, Josh Gad as McQueen and Willem Dafoe as Hardman.

Justice League Rated PG-13(November 17th)

Featuring the infamous DC heroes: Batman(Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman(Gal Gadot), The Flash(Ezra Miller), Aquaman(Jason Momoa),Cyborg(Ray Fisher) and guess what? Superman(Henry Cavill)! No one guessed he would come back from the dead… Justice League is a highly anticipated movie that has taunted DC fans. The general population hopes that this film is good, most are still recovering from the joke that is Dawn of Justice. Roles are being reprised and new characters are being introduced in this superhero team up that is hopefully going to help the DC film franchise, if it weren’t for Wonder Woman, there would be very little to no hope… Also coming back, is director Zack Snyder who made Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel.

Justice League takes place after Superman’s death, inspired by his act of bravery in the last Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne’s fire has been lit. He calls upon Diana Prince AKA Wonder Woman to face a new threat, recruiting a team to assist them. But despite this deadly formation consisting of The Dark Knight, the Amazonian, King of the Sea, Lightning itself and the half-man, half robot, there comes a greater force that may have already set the world for doom.

Wonder Rated PG(November 17th)

This is another adaptation based off the New York Times Bestseller by the same name. The movie is about the inspiring and heartening story of August Pullman who isn’t like all the other kids. He has facial differences that make him stand out, and the movie tells the story of his journey when he enters the 5th grade in a public and mainstream elementary. Overall, it seems like a very good-feel movie that is highly probable of plucking your heartstrings.

Directing Wonder, is Stephen Chbosky, who is a great film director! He has made 2 of my favorite movies The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Beauty and the Beast(2017).Starring as Auggie the main character is Jacob Tremblay who is a child prodigy in Hollywood, he starred in Room alongside Brie Larson as her son. Also in this movie is Julia Roberts who plays his mother, Roberts has been in countless hits, from Pretty Woman, to Mona Lisa Smile. Auggie’s dad is played by Owen Wilson, who is known mainly for being in comedies like Wedding Crashers but has done surprisingly well in some serious movies like Midnight in Paris.

Coco Rated PG(November 22nd)

Coco is a new animated film made by Disney Pixar. The setting is placed in Mexico, where young Miguel is going against his family tradition by playing music. It is strictly forbidden, but his ambition gets the better of him as he aspires to be like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. This takes him on an adventure leading him to the Land of the Dead. Here, he meets the charming Hector, and together they go through a spiraling chain of events that reveals Miguel’s family history.

The film is directed by Lee Unkrich, he has only made Disney movies which were Toy Story 2 and 3, Finding Dory, Monsters Inc. and a few more. Playing Miguel is brand new actor– Anthony Gonzalez. Hector is played by Gael García Bernal who has been in many productions including: Y Tu Mama Tambien and Casa de mi Padre. Also in the is Benjamin Bratt who is doing the voice of Miguel’s idol, Ernesto, Bratt has also been in a myriad of movies, from Miss Congeniality to Doctor Strange.
