After a 14-year run, the Indianapolis Colts have dropped starting quarterback Peyton Manning.

That is right, the six-time American Football Conference player of the year was not even traded, but dropped. This decision comes after a disappointed 2-14 season while Manning rode the bench due to a neck injury.

Still today Manning is listed as questionable but that is not stopping the vultures from picking at his decaying career. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets have already shown interest in Manning.

One would assume that without the star quarterback, the team would die but Colts’ owner Jim Irsay has an ace up his sleeve. Due to the embarrassing season, the Colts get the first pick of the rookie litter. What this means is they are just replacing the 35-year-old Manning with a new model. Irsay already has players in mind, Stanford QB Andrew Luck and Baylor QB and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III. These two are Irsay’s knights in shining armor but at the same time, Manning’s grim reapers.

It appears to be a tragic end to a hall of fame career. A key player cut because of an injury that is possible to bounce back from. Manning resembles a race horse whose broken its ankle. The question is, will he heal over time, or will he have to be put down?
