Junior Heidi Schmitt transformed her love of fashion into the creation of Fashion Club.  Although it is a fairly new club, it has plenty to offer students interested in fashion as a hobby as well as a career.  Fashion Club has a variety of activities planned for this school year including DIY designs, filming video tutorials, participating in fashion scholarship opportunities and drawing sketch designs.  The club meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month in Carl Overton’s room 513.

Here is a Q & A with Fashion Club founder and president Heidi Schmitt:

In what ways does fashion have an influence in your life?

Fashion influences my purchases, emotions and mood.  It attributes to my self-confidence and allows me to express myself.

What is the role you foresee fashion playing in your future?

Right now, I see fashion design as more of a hobby than a career but I have not ruled out the possibility of its potential.

Describe is your fashion icon?

My fashion icon would, hands-down, be Audrey Hepburn because she was very confident in what she wore and was not afraid to venture in creating her own trends.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is very camelion-like because it changes with my environment and mood.  So one day I could be wearing a girly skater dress on a shopping adventure with my friends and the next day I could be chilling in a casual v-neck and Pink yoga pants.

What inspired you to start a fashion club?

I wanted to offer Boone Braves an arena to showcase their artistic talent in all facets of fashion and provide an outlet for artistic creativity through community service and media support.

In what ways does Fashion Club reach out to the community?

Fashion Club will be upscaling and revamping clothing to donate to the Kemosabe Kloset, our sister schools, as well as third world countries.

What are the reasons one should join Fashion Club?

Fashion Club provides its members with an avenue to share and express their creativeness among friends.

How does Fashion Club stand out from all other clubs at school?

The exposure to diverse tastes and personalities that Fashion Club members share with each other may inspire a member to follow their dream by pursuing a career in fashion.

What are some of the things planned for Fashion Club’s agenda?

We have many activities in store such as continuing to revamp gently used clothing and donating it to the Kemosabe Kloset, DIY clothing and accessory designs, entering fashion college’s contests, and producing tutorial and lookbook videos as a media outlet.
