Gordon_Maynard What are your everyday responsibilities? I am responsible for attendance, digital curriculum and testing. So every day I first make sure that people are on time to school. Then, if people have difficulties making it on time I will call and see what is going on. I am working on getting everyone a laptop with the media center.

Where are you from? I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but I lived in State College all through high school. I started working in Orlando as soon as I finished college. I went to college at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and studied elementary education.

Why work at Boone? I moved to Orlando after college and began my teaching career then. I taught elementary science specials, middle school world history and English Language Arts and high school learning strategies. I was an assistant principal at Hunter’s Creek Elementary but wanted to be an assistant principal for a high school.

What are your first impressions of Boone? I love the school spirit. I love that everyone is so welcoming and I think it is a great set of students and staff. I am excited to work with them.

What is your go-to activity to spice up your weekend? I like to ride my bike and I’m really social- I don’t know if you noticed. I like to hang out with my friends. I play with my dogs, Stewart and Lily, they are like best friends.

What are the top five essentials you need to bring with you every day to work? I need my cell phone because I don’t have a watch, but I need the time. I need my laptop because it helps me stay more organized. I need a smile because it makes my day and other’s better. I need to enjoy coming to work and I need to have positive people around me.

What is your motto and why? “Always half full,” because I think you can always find something positive in everything you do.

Tell me about your high school experience. I was on the swim team all four years of high school and four years of college. I think getting involved in things makes [high school] a more positive experience. I encourage everyone to get involved. I have a twin sister who also played sports and I made friends with her field hockey friends. Studying and keeping up made it a good experiences because once you fall behind, it’s hard to catch back up.

How do you feel about online learning? I think that it’s a great experience to connect our students to what life is really like. What most people work with in life and college will be technology, so it’s great to expose them to that.

Why do you choose to work with high school students? I like all of the activities I am a part of. I am excited for prom and sporting events. I like seeing where people are and where they wanna go. I like seeing what the future holds for everyone and having an impact.
