Amidst the devastation of Hurricane Irma, OCPS is offering free breakfast and lunch to all students from Sept. 19 through Oct. 22.

The United States Department of Agriculture and The Florida Department of Agriculture provided OCPS the means to support the free food. The free food aims to assist Orange County residents’ recovery following the storm.

“Due to the storm, Orange County parents may have experienced power outages that led to a loss of the food in their home, as well as a variety of economic impacts, and so this waiver will ensure that any student who needs a meal can get one while they are at school,” Orange County Public Schools wrote on their Facebook page.

Power outages statewide resulted in OCPS cancelling all school and extra-cirricular activities Sept. 8 through Sept. 15. Schools reopened Sept. 18.

PTSA is also helping provide resources for families impacted from power outages and hurricane damage or displacement.
