The 2019-2020 school year is Mr. Rodriguez’s 30th as an elementary school principal. He feels blessed to have worked with caring and dedicated teachers at five different schools. His wife, Liz, is an outstanding high school math teacher at University High School. They have five interesting and entertaining children, are avid Gator football and basketball fans, and they all love hanging out together and going to the beach.

As principal of John Young Elementary School, he is honored to work with a staff devoted to the health, happiness and academic achievement of our students. JYES is considered a school of excellence, and is committed to improving their skill set through meaningful, job-embedded professional development.

Assistant Principal

Tyisha Speights headshotTyisha Speights

This school year is her second year as an elementary school assistant principal. In kindergarten, Ms. Speights knew she wanted to be an educator, so she believes she is living her dream. Her family laughs when she says that if she doesn’t make it with this career, sh will just be an actress.

She is married to Donnell, a math coach at Liberty Middle School, and a mother to two feisty little girls, Tatiana and Michaela. When she is not at school, you can find her catching up on shows, online shopping, playing with her girls, or reading.
