A couple of notes about homework this week:
1. Math homework might be a little sporadic over the next couple of weeks. I often use my own resources and they do not always align with the sequence of the math series, meaning that the homework doesn’t always match. If math pages come home out of order or your child tells you I changed the directions to match how we learned it in class, don’t be surprised.
2. There is a special I Love a Book Day project coming home this week as the October Book Report. It is not due until Friday, October 28th, but here’s some information if you want to get started before the hard copies and poster board are sent home (probably Wednesday or Thursday night): Please help your child pick a book on his/her level to read that has an interesting character that he/she would like to share with the school during the I Love a Book Day parade. Get creative and use a variety of materials to help your character come to life (yarn, fabric, sequence, paint, etc). Also, please note that in 2nd grade students are allowed to wear outfits that enhance their body mask posters, but they are not allowed to wear “Halloween costumes.” Thanks for your cooperation with this. In case you are having some trouble picturing what a character body mask looks like, here are some examples from years past:
Here is this week’s challenge spelling list. Remember, the challenge spelling words are only for practice at home. There is no separate quiz, but I do love seeing students practice those words on the Monday night homework! Double Consonants (F)
A couple of years ago during Curriculum Night, Ms. Fiffick and I did a presentation on unpacking a writing task and marking the text to make reading more interactive. I’m attaching the presentation in case you were unable to attend, as well as a copy of a bookmark containing the text marking symbols. This is a reading strategy that we use all the time in class that is easy to incorporate at home. Please let me know if you have any questions!
