The Timber Creek Boys and Girls Tennis team had a fantastic 2018 season and it is now coming to a close. The girls had a 12-2 record and the boys had a 6-7 record– the teams still have one regular season match before districts. There were 10 boys and 11 girls on the team, and the teams played at the same matches and had the same practices. With so few members on the team, the players were able to bond and became a family throughout the course of the year. The team had 16 matches this year, most of them beginning at 3:30pm with warm up time right after school. Since the matches were in mid afternoon, the players had to battle both heat and sunburn during each match and practice.

Junior Alana Wolfberg has the potential to do big things in the world of tennis. At the match on March 27th, a recruiter from the University of Florida was present to watch Wolfberg play. She played both a single match and a doubles match that day, and she did very well. “I was really nervous when I saw the recruiter there, but I knew I was comfortable on the court and that I could show him my skills”.

On Tuesday, March 27th, the tennis team had their senior night to honor their senior players. The boy’s seniors are Samuel Meunier, Amahn Syed, Andrew Kroupa, Mathew Spiteri, and Luis Blanco. The girl’s seniors are Georgia Caraffa and Valentina Sasso. They played Lake Howell High School and all of the athletes were full of energy and ready to go. Both the girls and boys won the match, and this led into a fun evening held at one of the players houses. They ate dinner, had cake, and signed posters as a goodbye gift to their seniors.

Some matches were easier than others. Freedom High School, Bishop Moore High School , and Winter Park High School proved to be difficult competition for both the boy’s and the girl’s teams. While Timber Creek and Avalon Park are home to strong tennis communities, tennis is prevalent in these areas as well. “These teams have proved to be a difficult challenge year after year” said 4-year player Samuel Meunier. “We just have to practice hard before these games and we did the best we could.
