Have you ever wondered how you could save money in your near future? Well, dual enrollment could be the way. Dual enrollment is when you are taking college classes while still being in high school. By doing this you can not only save time but a boat loads of money. Because you are taking these college classes while in high school, your school will pay for you to take these classes. By taking these dual enrollment classes you could end up getting your Associate’s degree when you graduate from high school.

Junior Angelina Heath dual enrolled through Valencia when she was in her sophomore year of high school. The prices of her books and to take the class totaled out to be $300. Heath stated, “I’m glad I took the classes now because I am saving so much money in my near future.” Instead of having to spend all this money Orange County Public Schools paid for all her fees. Not only did Heath save money but she saved time in her future of having to take this class when she gets out of high school.

Junior Alek Harper, is a full-time dual enrollment student. He only has 4 classes over at the college and goes to school twice a week. Not only is Alek knocking out all his college classes for free but, he has more free time to work a job and save money for college when he gets out of high school. Harper stated, “I like how I only go to school on Mondays and Thursdays and mainly only have tests with no high school busy work.”

Now you can see why dual enrollment is such a great choice.  You could work hard and save money just like Heath and Harper by doing dual enrollment. You will want to make sure that the colleges you apply to after high school accept the dual enrollment credits, but most Florida schools accept them without any issues. Timber Creek’s guidance office can help guide you through the requirements and your options.
