New and upcoming club staring the popular sport Pickleball.

It’s taking up courts like wildfire. Tennis courts are now being converted into Pickleball courts and people are rushing to them. Pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes. All ages are playing it, but many high school students are as well. The rules are simple: the game starts with a serve, then the ball must bounce once on each side before either team can volley, and lastly each point continues until a fault. You must know this if you are interested in our school’s new club.

It is finally here, a Pickleball club. No more playing only at lunch because now we have it three Mondays out of the month. Students have been asking for months and two girls had a bright idea on a random day to start the club. They both had no idea how to make a club but were on a mission to start one. Senior Hailey Banks, the president of the pickleball club, said, “My vice president and I have been working hours a day on this club, making sure that it is exactly what members expect.” Perfecting this club is the goal for Banks to make sure all students feel welcome and the club is up to their standards.

We are all wondering how students are feeling about this new club and how to join. The first interest meeting will be held September 23rd in Mr. Dutcher’s room where all pickleball enthusiasts can come and learn how to join and even become an officer. Junior Nathan Ceavas said, “Bringing it into school makes me super excited about how I can now play Pickleball at school and make new friends while doing it.” This is a club where students not only exercise but also socialize with people that they probably have never even talked to but have the same interests as them. Having this new club is exciting for students all over campus.

Are you interested in the newest addition to the clubs here and Timber Creek? Well if so, come next Monday to participate with your fellow peers to learn all the ways to become a member and maybe you even meet someone new that you may have never talked to before. So get out there and grab your paddles because we’re hitting the courts every Monday.

On the list! Senior Kyle Gilchrist can be seen signing the Pickleball interest form. “I’m so excited for there to be a pickleball club at our school. I’ve been waiting for one for so long,” he said. Photo donated.
