Around this time of year, a variety of people become joyful of the upcoming winter, and are filled with jolly spirits. They take part in decorating Christmas trees, having snowball fights, and drinking hot cocoa near a warm fireplace. The air would be cold, and inches of snow would fill up driveways. The atmosphere would be suitable for a Christmas, New Years, and winter.
But, of course, Florida is always a tad different from other locations. The temperature wouldn’t drop as much, and the sun would probably still shine. Snow won’t fill up driveways or fall, and the air would just be chilly. Though, does this unfavorable weather affect the holiday, or prevent such a memorable Christmas? Students at Timber Creek both have their comparisons on the situation.
Freshmen Odalys Esparza shares her opinions, by expressing winter as a gleeful season for the holidays. Though in Florida, she opposes, “I personally love the season, but not in Florida. It just doesn’t feel like the typical winter, and it’s not very cold. It isn’t the same, it doesn’t correlate.” Many agree alongside Esparza, but this doesn’t prevent them from enjoying the holiday. Esparza claimed that she’ll still look forward to drinking hot cocoa with her family.
Junior Sandy Nguyen agrees as well, “I think the weather is very unusual, since normal winters are supposed to be cold. It’s hot here, and I believe everyone is very familiar with that. But this doesn’t really affect my mood on Christmas, or such, as much.” Nguyen explains that her attitude on the matter isn’t much of a disadvantage either. She looks forward to doing fun activities others can’t usually do in the north, such as going to the beach and building sandcastles.
