On April 20th there is a planned nation wide school walk out. This walk out is to remember the lives that were lost in the Parkland shooting. The walkout is planned to take place on April 20th due that being the anniversary of the Columbine shooting; on of the first mass school shootings. Students are planning to walk out of class at 10am and sit outside of the school in a silent protest against the gun violence and school shootings that are plaguing America.
On this Friday afternoon students plan to finally make a change and gain the attention of the general public. The point of this protest is to get the attention of the new and get the message across. They hope to express the fact that these school shootings need to come to a complete end. Students want to make the point that this is something that must change and that the first step in this is making a change in our gun laws. Students want to show that they will not stand for this violence and that this isn’t a situation we will accept as a social norm.
While this is a protest to remember those that lost their lives in the Parkland shooting this is also a chance to get the change and safety many desire. Student will wear orange in remembrance and make posters and signs to get their message across that change isn’t only wanted, but necessary. “Although there are those few people that say changing these laws is ‘stupid’ or ‘unnecessary’ they’re wrong. This is something that is completely necessary.” said Imani Carlo.
Senior Imani Carlo is anticipating the upcoming school walkout with excitement about being able to fight for something she believes in.
