Pre-season Predictions

By Hannah Jones

Varsity boys volleyball is very competitive and exciting. Our team here at timber creek has had many victories in the past and many ahead of them in the future.  With tryouts in mid February, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are getting ready to give it their all.

Returning star players Ethan Morales and Gabriel Pluguez look forward to the season, which hopefully will be better than last. Morales, who is an all around setter, feels excited to see the new faces on the team.  He felt a lot of pressure being a freshmen on varsity, but now that he’s a sophomore he says there is not going to be as much. Pluguez, who plays outside and right side, said the team can make this year better by “working as a team and making the younger ones on the team feel welcome.”  The returning players hope to make it to districts but as long as the team succeeds they will feel accomplished. Coach Aliberti, who will be assisting Coach Stevens, said, “The chemistry of the team depends on how far you go.” Coach Aliberti also feels that this year’s season is going to be competitive and that if the athletes mature and play well, they will succeed.

Kill it! Ethan Morales sets his team mate up for a kill in a friendly game of queen of the court. His team mate got the kill. “Open gyms are great because we can see where everyone is and how we can improve the chemistry on the court,” Morales said.

Watch this! Gabriel Pluguez serves the ball to friend who is on the other side of the net in another friendly game of queen of court, Pluguez won the point with an ace. “I feel really confident about this season,” Pluguez said after open gym.
