Girls Weightlifting Begins Season

The girls began the season on November 1, starting with a success. The Lady Wolves won at their first of three home meets against Freedom, scoring 57 points to their 29. The girls have a rigorous schedule with practice every day, but they believe that it’s necessary in order to succeed.

When asked about season and whether or not it is a difficult schedule considering the majority of away games, head coach Jonathan Frankos replied, “No, I don’t think the schedule is hard. It’s important to have a mix between our environment and a foreign environment. You get that uncomfortable feeling to improve.” Players agree. Senior Hannah Dale explained that, “the schedule is hard but worth it.”

From the last meet Senior Aliyah Gonzalez feels as if she needs more confidence, but from the help of her fellow teammates and coaches, she can push herself. “You’re a lot stronger than you think and you feel welcomed by all the girls and it’s just a positive atmosphere,” said Gonzalez. Sophomore Sophia Vichot stated, “The tryouts have a very good system because everyone makes the team and works together.”

Vichot feels she could improve more on her form and her goal is to make it to Nationals. “60” is mentally  just you thinking you can’t do it, because I thought I couldn’t lift 5 pounds but now I can lift 80,” said Vichot.
