Football is not the only fall sport that has had a rough start. With a 2-3 record, the girls volleyball team was looking for another win after defeating Dr. Phillips on Sept. 12. The Wolves looked to the district game versus the Colonial High School Grenadiers to keep the winning streak alive.
“We’ve been getting talks from our coaches to just be mentally prepared and to not worry about it,” junior Kristen Johansson said.
The pre-game allowed both teams warming up and see where the other team excelled. From there, it was all about the game.
The Wolves started strong, setting an early lead against Colonial. That lead did not last long as the Grenadiers attempted to close the gap by slipping a few points past Timber Creek’s defense. TC countered with a few points of their own, securing a 25-14 win for the first game.
The second game began with a solid five points from the Wolves before the Grenadiers managed to squeeze in two of their own. The Timber Creek girls then went off on a seven point streak, allowing Colonial to score every now. The match ended with the ladies dominating Colonial, winning 25-10.
With only one game needed to ensure victory for the Wolves, the Grenadiers began to fight back, leaving Timber Creek with the unsatisfying score of 3-2 a few minutes into the match.
The Wolves were able to get their fire back with a four point streak, after being rallied by fellow teammates. In the end, Timber Creek came out on top, defeating Colonial 25-15.
Junior Kara Peters was pleased with the win. “We played so well tonight and we won so I’m happy with the performance,” said Peters.
Though satisfied with the outcome, varsity head coach Cameron Stevens continued to look towards future goals. “Ultimately we want to make the district tourney, win districts and move onto states. That’s got to be the goal,” said Stevens, “If we don’t have the mindset of making it to states then we set our goals too low.”
The girls volleyball team has begun their journey to districts.
