AFJROTC HOLDS CLOTHING DRIVE FOR HOMELESS

Homelessness is a widespread issue across the nation, and although the rates are currently decreasing, there are still thousands of people in need of help, especially when it comes to the clothes on their back.

Thankfully, the AFJROTC program at Timber Creek High School has recently begun a clothing drive to collect apparel for those that cannot afford it themselves. Coordinating with organizations like “Project Downtown,” a national drive aimed at helping homeless people across the United States, ROTC and the other participating students at Timber Creek are making a big difference.

The clothing drive is currently under way and will run through Thursday, October 13th 2016. Everyone who wishes to support the cause is welcome and most definitely appreciated. Students who participate can even earn volunteer hours; one volunteer hour is earned for every two clothing items that are donated. There are large white boxes located in the Timber Creek Media Center in which items can be dropped off and an AFJROTC Cadet will be present to sign off on student volunteer hours.

According to Hannah Dale and Nicole Balbuena, AFJROTC representatives, the clothing drive has been of great success so far. “We are accepting everything, unless it’s really damaged…but we hope to see more students actively take part in this,” Dale and Balbuena said. Students, staff, and families are being targeted for this drive, and clothes for all ages, are eagerly accepted. Undergarments are an exception and are not collected due to hygienic concerns.

If you are looking to take part in a non-profit clothing drive, head on down to the Media Center and drop off some clothes! Garments you may never wear anymore could actually make a huge difference in someone else’s life!
