What makes our theatrical program so wonderful? Not the voices of the performers, or the time spent on a production. It is the dedication and loyalty that everyone involved has their hands in. Months upon months are used to prepare for the biggest and most popular shows, especially, Hairspray. The musical is set to open in January but the program has already been planning numbers and building sets since September. All of the musicals take loads of preparation and everyone has to chip in somehow to make it work.
As Hairspray approaches, senior Kaycee Ejiogu, who is a part of the cast, says his favorite part of putting the production together is “working with everyone during rehearsal to make the project good and watching it all come together in the end.” Ejiogu has been a part of the theater program since he entered high school. Hairspray has been a work in progress since the first day of school. He also said that it takes around 6 months to prepare for any show.
For 11 years now, our creative stage craft teacher, Justin Horn, has been creating the sets for all of Timber Creek’s shows. He is the head of everything it takes to physically build the show and sets and behind the scenes work. Hairspray has already been under construction since September to get ready for one big show. Horn credits his students by saying, “They do everything… They build it, they paint it, they put it on the stage, they do everything.”
