Why students should join the art club

Timber Creek High School has an after school club, The Art Club. Many students sign up for this club. They love that they can be as silly and artistic as much as they want. They also participate in school events. They decorate and join fun games such as decorating floats for parades. They do holiday inspired activities.
Each week of the month the Art Club has a meeting on a rotating day of the week. Club member, freshman Nouran Ahmed commented, “Every meeting is a new day of the week. So it is Monday for the first week and Tuesday for the next week.” In the meeting they talk about any upcoming events and projects. They also do activities of the day. There’s a new challenge every day. The teacher gives something new to challenge you every day.
They also participated in the homecoming parade. The Art Club helped decorate the float and also participated in the parade by throwing candy at the little kids, walking in the parade, and they decorated a truck. They walked all of Avalon Park. The kids were very happy when they saw that people were throwing candy and saying hi. The kids in Art Club dressed up and we’re walking with the dogs. This event allows them to show school spirit and be active within the Timber Creek community.
In Art Club, during the month of october, each day the students would draw something new according to the theme. They called it Inktober. For example, one of the themes was dragons. Each student in the club had to draw their own definition of dragon. At the end of October they chose three winners for the best Inktober. The winners were first place, Naomi R. , Second place, Hailey B. , Third Place, Mariana R. For Christmas the Art Club is doing operation santa. They’re giving gifts to the less fortunate. Nouran Ahmed, grade 9 said, “We’re doing operation santa. It is to the kids that are less fortunate and give them gifts for Christmas.” The whole Art Club gathered gifts/toys for the kids. This event allows them to give back to the community and help others.

I love that it helps give to others and shows school spirit.” The poster was used in the homecoming parade as students held it as they walked and ran in the parade. Photo by Ariana Quinones
