Everything there is to know about the SGA class & what it is all about, from real TC students!

A simple definition of leadership is motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. SGA is a great organization that has been turned into an elective for high school students to take part in. Students are able to be a part of a supportive community of other students who share the same interests. There are many qualities of an SGA member that will help guide them through their high school years and beyond. SGA holds district conventions that unite all SGA members together in one place. Every SGA period has committees including Membership Motivation, Community Service, Faculty & Staff, and Environmental Concerns. Here is anything & everything to know about SGA if you were ever considering choosing it as an elective.
SGA holds a district convention for all SGA members to attend. During this convention, SGA members from all different schools are able to meet & connect in one place. This year, it was held at our school, Timber Creek High School. The theme for this D3 was the circus. Natia Brown, a member of SGA, voiced her experience of the convention. “D3 was very fun. We decorated the hallways after school for hours and then went to the convention the next day. It was fun to host an even and not participate in it, just help. I would for sure do It again,” said Brown. All TC SGA members were involved in the process of putting the convention together. From setting up the hallways to directing students in the right place. It was a combined team effort and lead to great D3 success.
Each SGA class has different committees for different groups. The committee, Environmental Concerns, has recently completed their 2nd quarter project on Friday, December 13th. As a committee, they must come up with creative & innovative ideas to help the environment in the best way that they can. Recently, they had a presentation at Timber Lakes Elementary School about the importance of recycling. As a committee, they had to coordinate everything about the presentation from informing the TLE staff to deciding who was going to be bringing the cookies for the kids! Gabi Borriello, a member of the committee said, “I love my committee! All of us are able to work together efficiently to create such an amazing project. Everyone in my committee loved the opportunity to educate the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders about the importance of recycling. They had so many questions after, which let us know they were intrigued and wanted to get involved!”
SGA has many amazing opportunities to get more involved in the community. When joining this group you are able to be a part of something more than you and for the benefit of everyone around you and beyond. You are able to make an impact on the world as the new generation with the ability to connect with other students who share the same interests as you.
