JV Boy’s Basketball Takes on East River
By Elisa Ivanov
It’s near the end of the season for boy’s basketball and the JV team has a game against rival, East River, on Tuesday, January 24th. Freshman, Connor Recio, makes a three-pointer at the beginning of the first period to bring up Timber Creek to 6-2. The players seemed to struggle with East River’s defense, but sophomore and JV basketball player, Akeen Lewis says that the win against East River will be easy. “The only reason we would lose is if we’re not playing together, so I think just focusing on unity and the team is important”. Players Akeen Lewis and Garrett Roth said that unity is what makes a team and it is what helps win the game.
East River leads 28-27 at halftime and the game is stressful for the players, coaches, and audience. Both teams have an equal chance at winning and both teams seem very confident. During the third period, Timber Creek trails behind by two points. “Yes this is a big game for us because it’s a rivalry game”. Timber Creek fell to East River in the 2015-16 season. It was time for the Wolves to win back their title. With ten seconds left in the third period, a three-pointer brings up Timber Creek 49-46 to break the tie.
Going into the fourth period, the game is close and intense. Although the game is close, the players feel confident and well prepared. “Usually on the practice before, like, an hour before the game I’ll go out and shoot”. The players spend countless hours practicing at practice and before the game to make sure they are well prepared for their next game.
With two minutes and thirty seconds left in the fourth period, Cameron Hall gets a three-pointer to bring Timber Creek up to 60-59. In the last couple seconds of the game, Timber Creek loses the ball and is down 65-66. Freshman Cameron Hall gets the ball back and runs down the court and scores two points at the buzzer to get TImber Creek up to 67-66 for a great win against East River.
