On March 26th the Timber Creek Varsity Baseball team took on Colonial High School on the Wolves field. Everyone in the stands was cheering and supporting the boys baseball team. The team did very well overall by beating Colonial 11-1 in five innings. Not only did the boys gain a huge win, they also celebrated their senior night. The seniors set the tone early, by showcasing their senior pitcher Denton Coquyt, who pitched a three up, three down inning.
By the bottom of the first the Wolves scored three runs, where all nine batters in the order had a plate appearance. Timber Creek continued to extend their lead by the second extending their lead to 4-0. Seniors Denton Coquyt, Brian Goodman, and Cory Gunning would come around to score in the fourth inning extending the lead even further to 8-1. Proceeding to the top of the fifth Timber Creek decided to make a pitching change to Senior Luis Valero being able to end the inning in a strikeout. The Wolves put up runs every inning and that didn’t stop them from letting up. The Wolves scored another three runs, giving them a ten run lead against Colonial. This resulted in a run rule, which ended the game due to mercy rule.
For seniors it meant a great deal to not only gain a win but to win on their senior night. Senior Brian Goodman has been a part of this program for all four years of his high school career, and was the starting catcher against Colonial. “Senior night means a lot to me, especially since I’ve been a part of this program throughout all of high school. It was great being able to celebrate with the rest of the seniors and my other teammates, and to get a win made it all worth it,” Goodman stated.
Not only did senior night mean a lot to the seniors but it also made an impact on the underclassman. Junior Hector Casanova, has been on varsity for a year but has learned so much from this year’s seniors. “Watching these boys on senior night has made me realize that the years really do go by fast. I grew up playing with all these kids and it’s created lasting bonds and memories with each other as teammates,” Casanova explained. Even though the season isn’t over and the job is unfinished, everyone is extremely proud of this year’s seniors.
