Netflix recently released season two of its original series “The Crown.” It was released on December 8th 2017 and fans loved the new season. The series is created and written by Peter Morgan and portrays various events that occurred during reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Season one covered the time from her marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh, Philip, to the time when her sister Margaret had to break off her engagement to Peter Townsend. Season one was released on November 4th 2016. Season two begins with the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956 and ends in 1964 with the birth of Prince Edward.
The Crown has been renewed for a third and fourth season. The show is planned to have six seasons with 10 episodes each. However, since the show shows biographical progression, new actors will have to be cast every other season in order to accurately depict the aging of the Queen and her family. Queen Elizabeth II is played by Claire Foy in seasons one and two, and in seasons three and four she will be played by Olivia Colman.
Since the show was released in 2016, it has gained many viewers and has received widespread praise. Many of the shows elements have been loved by critics, including acting, writing, directing, and historical accuracy. Senior Samuel Meunier loves the show because of its ability to “really show the history and the struggles the Queen and her family faced during the time”. John Lithgow as Winston Churchill in season one received many acclimations along with Claire Foy for her role as the Queen. Foy and Lithgow won Best Actress and Best Actor at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards. The show received 13 nominations at the 69th Annual Emmy Awards. Foy was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series, and Lithgow won Outstanding Supporting actor in a Drama series. The Crown was nominated for Outstanding Drama series.
