As a new school year starts, the Timber Creek football team gets ready for a brand new season. After a handful of months practicing multiple times a week, all the teammates agree that each wants to contribute in any way possible to get their team into the playoffs. Senior Jordan Roman is a wide receiver with 8 years of football experience and two years being a part of the varsity team; Roman is confident he is prepared for all the games as well as his classes this year.
Many of the players have mentioned their goals for the team this year including working out more often and balancing football and their own academics. Roman said, “This season we want to win districts and make it to the playoffs and possibly go far and when I’m on the field I just want to win games.” Sophomore William Muniz, outside linebacker, plans on motivating and improving himself from last year and becoming stronger, especially since he has recently jumped from junior varsity to varsity. New transfer Axel Flores, running back, has gone through his own trials and tribulations of juggling transitioning to a new school and making varsity in a new team. “It feels good to be here because it took a lot of work and dedication.”
Many players have kept pushing themselves both on and off the field to become better players and people. One of the wing players, Barak Matviak, said, “…I tell myself that every day is a new day to drive myself to keep working.” To upcoming players, Roman wants them to know to “keep working hard and [that] your time’s coming.”
Even though the first game of the 22-23 school year was rained on, the boys rigorously practiced for a week making sure they would leave an imprint on other schools. Here’s to a new season, let’s make it even better than the last. Go wolves!
