The NHSDA club is a club you should think about joining if you are a dancer

By Kaycie Ramsey

The NHSDA is a school dance program made to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K-12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education. The NHSDA is welcome to dancers of every level and studio. To become a member of NHSDA you have to maintain a 3.0 GPA and fill out the intended paperwork and attend an acceptable amount of meetings to maintain your position on the club.

Inductions to become an officer are held every April, so to become an officer for the upcoming year you must submit all of the necessary information. The current officers in 2019-20 are President: Zuli Alamo, Vice-President: Jarimar Fernandez, Secretary: Anaya Daniel , Treasurer: Katie Aldinger, Historian: Chloe Farrow. The officers help plan and run what happens for all of the meetings, fundraisers, after school activities, etc.

  • Honor cords are awarded to graduating seniors, but to receive an honor cord you must:
  • -Be active in the program for a minimum of two years. Attend monthly meetings as well.
  • -Be inducted into NHSDA.
  • -Receive an an average their senior year in their dance class.
  • -Not have any discipline issues with administration.
  • -Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A.
  • -Complete a minimum of 10 participation points each year.
  • -Maintain a proper demonstration of character.
  • -Professionalism/Participation grades are As.

The awards given to the members are based off of three categories: Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement. So for each member to receive an award, the nominee must demonstrate artistic and technical excellence in dance. This is to be noticed for your artist mert. The Nominee must demonstrate outstanding leadership in and outside of the field of dance at the school, community, state, and/or national level. Which is to be recognized for your leadership skills. And finally, the Nominee must demonstrate academic excellence with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The NHSDA is a good club for anyone with a dance background and should definitely be a club you consider to join. Senior, Mikaela Lee said, “It’s a good way to fundraise and really helps the dance program.”
