Musician Students Come Together to Perform the Things That Really Matter.

Timber Creek High School is home to a plethora of clubs, sports, career programs, and opportunities for students to get involved. One way many students choose to involve themselves is the music programs that Timber Creek provides. From marching band to musical theater, Timber Creek is home to many great musicians, but it seems like the options for some students are limited. Some find it hard to play the music they enjoy and the ability to perform their own work. Trying to combat this struggle is senior Damjan Jankovic and his Timber Creek Music Club.
This club is a very fascinating opportunity for students who are looking to possibly perform locally and get a start on projects and a future in music. It also provides a way for students to express themselves in a more authentic way, singing and playing songs they want and how they want too. “There is a formal structure within the classes that entails people who participate in them to follow a set curriculum of music to learn and play. There can be a sort of barrier to entry that is necessary, but daunting for those who want to pursue a more casual and individual approach to their musical pursuits,” said Jankovic. Timber Creek Music Club is a group of singers, songwriters, and musicians who gather every Thursday with the efforts to create an environment where students can immerse themselves in music, whether that be talking about songs they like or even learning how to write a song in workshops.
One interesting and unique goal of Timber Creek Music Club is the end of year music festival that will be a showcase of cover songs they are going to host in the PAC. Senior Ariana Garcia said, “We are planning to host a music festival at the end of the year. I feel like this is so different because it isn’t centered around doing one thing at a time. I was looking for somewhere to create music with others and be able to share it with them. This club was the perfect solution.” This end-of-year festival would serve as more than just a talent show. For most of the club members, this would be their first big performance in front of a crowd and it would allow them to dip their toes into the world of performance.
Junior Alejandro Zuleta, a guitarist who joined Timber Creek Music Club this year, said, “Getting into music made me way more motivated to get through my days and dedicated to do something like practicing. I love the dedication of playing guitar and the commitment to become good.” Musicians put so much time and work into their craft and being able to define your own style is so important. It serves as an emotional outlet for many and it creates a sense of purpose amongst lost adolescents. This music club could serve so much more than just a band rehearsal, but rather a community that ignites each other to be innovative and new.
