Poultry pets may soon be allowed to stay in your backyard

J.J heart is a young boy who has autism. The therapy he most enjoys are his chickens. J.J has formed an unbreakable bond with his three therapy chickens, however his bond was threatened when the city council of DeBary, Florida informed the family they were unable to keep the chickens due to the laws against having chickens in residential areas. But J.J’s family’s hard work to attempt to keep the chickens payed off as they were granted permission by the city council to keep the chickens.
Seminole county is now on its way to to join in on a growing number of communities in central Florida including Orlando that will allow homeowners in residential neighborhoods to have a limited number of chickens in their backyards. This means if you have ever dreamed of having a pet chicken as your companion you’re in luck! Having your own chickens can have very many benefits to you and your family such as fresh eggs, garden enrichment, waste reducement, and a little old fashioned entertainment! What’s more fun than watching your very own chicken as it walks around your garden doing what only chickens do. However in order to keep your chickens you will need to pay a $75 fee to get a permit and must take a class to prove that you are capable of providing the care that the chickens require. You will also be unable to keep rooster you’re only permitted to keep hens and the chickens are not to be slaughtered or bred. When asked about the subject, Junior Kiersten Webb stated that she thought it was a great idea to make it legal, “I’ve always wanted to be able to like live organically and have my own chickens to get eggs from.” Said Webb.
