The Timber Creek cheer team gets ready for a great season
By Lindsey Parker
As the new cheer season begins, Timber Creek does what it takes to prepare for a successful season. With eleven games ahead, the cheer team practices consistently in order to have great sideline presence, and skills for these games. Over the summer the team attends practices and camps in preparation for the season. While practicing for the sideline season, the athletes work towards skills to incorporate in the competition season.
The team does many things to get ready for the season. Sophomore Jordyn Moore says, “To prepare for the season we have summer workouts as a team, and we also have a four day camp to bond as a team and get more skills.” The camp Moore is referring to is U.C.A camp. The cheer team takes part in this camp over the summer to perfect and learn new skills. This is one of the many things the athletes do to get ready for the season. Senior Emma Stone also states, “Two main things we do as a team are U.C.A camp and summer workouts.” These events are very important because it allows the athletes to grow individually as a cheerleader, and as a team. The camp is designed to bring the cheerleaders together and create bonds, while also teaching new stunts to showcase at games. Junior Lily Chubb states that, “we worked on many different elite stunts, and were able to come back with many new skills that I can’t wait to perform at games.”
Outside of cheer practice, the athletes go above and beyond to improve their tumbling and stunting. Senior Emma Stone states, “I often go on my own time to practice tumbling and meet up with my stunt group to get more consistent with stunts.” Many of the cheerleaders do this because they are determined to get whatever skills they are reaching for whether it’s tumbling, stunting, or jumps. Stone also said, “Sometimes I meet up with my stunt group and we try new stunts that we eventually want to perform at games. We drill these stunts so that they become consistent and easy.” The athletes use their passion for the sport by working hard in and outside of practice, which will make this a great season for Timber Creek cheerleading.
With the season starting up, the cheerleaders are excited to show the fans their skills and spirit. Junior Lily Chubb said, “I’m excited for home games because doing cheers with the purple people is really fun, and I’m excited to perform my stunts with my stunt group.” This season holds many opportunities to spirit with the student section and make memories while doing so. Senior Emma Stone says, “My favorite part of game days is being on the sideline and seeing the student section and I am looking forward to the pep rally.” The pep rallies in the previous years were canceled or modified due to Covid, so this year many cheerleaders are excited for this event. Based on all of the practices and preparation Timber Creek has applied, there’s no doubt that this season will be successful and memorable.
