VETERAN’S DAY
The young men and women of Timber Creek’s Air Force Junior ROTC that performed a vigil on Veteran’s Day in the PAC Nov.11. It was the 2nd of three performances this Veteran’s Day holiday weekend. They were here at Timber Creek for a Saturday performance and appeared at the Corporal Patrick Deans’ Memorial Park Dedication at 4:30PM at Timber Springs Park. They put a lot of time into making the performance respect the integrity of Veteran’s Day and honor all of those who have served, are serving, or gave the ultimate sacrifice The Color Guard also went to Timber Lakes Elementary and participated in their Veteran’s Day event Nov.11. Their instructors were proud of them for their tireless practice and dedication and also are grateful to those of you that have served or a family member of yours that has served.
“Again, what a great day to be a Veteran and Instructor of the greatest JROTC cadets in the world! It’s also a time to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, like one of our own former cadets at FL-20041, Timber Creek High School,” said by Major Brian Humphrey. On Veteran’s Day… Mayor Teresa Jacobs of Orange County with Sheriff Jerry Demings and County Commissioner Jennifer Thompson dedicated a park in Timber Springs to Corporal Patrick Deans. “Thank you for the life you led and those sharing the peace of everlasting life, until we meet again,” said Humphrey.
DRILL COMPETITIONS – BELLEVIEW HIGH and LAKE WORTH HIGH
The Drill Team and Color Guard Competition Teams will travelling to Belleview High on Nov. 16 and Lake Worth High on Dec. 7. Cadets participate in regulation and exhibition drill competitions with other AFJROTC units and units from sister services (if any). These teams incorporate the opportunity for leadership roles and responsibilities into our Leadership program, as well as the opportunity for character development. We try to incorporate into our program some aspects of competition among the cadets for “pride of unit ownership” and recognition for setting the standards when adhering to rules and policies. Practices are usually conducted after normal school hours. Drill team members are expected to participate in selected civic, school, and patriotic parades, and other exhibitions.
ORIENTEERING COMPETITIONS – WEKIVA SPRINGS
Orienteering is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Our Orienteering placed 2nd Place Overall and one of our Team Members, Lawrence Buckley, placed 2nd Overall!
