The 2014 men’s basketball team Senior Night was Friday Jan. 24. Before the game, each of the seniors on the Wolves varsity squad were honored and had their pictures taken with their parents, Coach David Bailey, and Principal Dr. Gabriel Berrio. Steven Rodriguez, Cuyler “Stuckey” Mosley, Josh Thompson, Quentin Smith, and Jeremy Anderson all had a smile on their face when they heard their name called and everyone started cheering. “This group of seniors has responded well to me being a first year coach, especially with the injuries to a couple of them. They have provided great leadership. Each one has accepted their roles, and it has spread well to the rest of the team,” said Coach Bailey.
After all the pictures and a few words from each of the players and their parents, the game against the Leesburg Yellowjackets tipped off. The Wolves took an early lead in the first quarter with a couple of three pointers and a big time alley-oop finished off by Josh Thompson. After a couple big plays the gym got loud.
“It really pumps the team up when the gym erupts, especially when somebody dunks because it really shifts the momentum of the game in our favor,” said Junior Jasseim Obie. The momentum was in their favor and they kept it in their favor the entire game. The team won 78-63 and sent out it’s seniors on a great note. “Getting a win for our senior’s feels great. The team really came together for the seniors tonight,” said junior Julian Pina.
With the win the Wolves improve to 15-7 on the season. They have three more regular season games on the road and then will prepare for the district playoffs. Having won five games in a row, the Wolves have their eyes on a playoff run.
