TC IS NOT A TRASH CAN
Every day around Timber Creek High School, there is trash. Whether it’s on the benches, in the halls, or on the ground, Timber creek students have failed to keep their school clean. Littering is a problem that can easily be resolved starting with the students. At Timber Creek, there are trashcans everywhere so there isn’t an excuse as to why trash is everywhere as well.
From a personal experience, during lunch time my sophomore year, I used to sit next to all these freshman boys. Every day I noticed not a single one of them threw their garbage away. Instead, the boys left their trash on the tables and left it to be cleaned up by someone else. Finally, I had enough of them not being courteous to throwing away their trash, so I went up to them. I told them to count how many trash can there were around them. I remember one kid saying, “There’s 7.” Another said, “8”. There were 7-8 trash cans around them and they couldn’t throw away their trash. It just was so ridiculous to me. After that day, they threw away their garbage the rest of the year.
It’s not that the students at Timber Creek are trying to be disrespectful, it’s more so that they don’t think about the negative effects it has on Timber Creek. The student’s know eventually someone will pick their trash up for them. If students help other students be more aware of this issue, there will be a decrease in the amount of trash around the school. It isn’t something that’s enforced very often.
Junior, Ryan Anderson says he sits in the cafeteria every day and “almost half the students don’t throw their trash away.” Anderson also expressed that he is part of the cleanup crew during the seventh period for his guided workplace class and he sees all sorts of trash in Timber Creek’s bushes.
All in all, Timber Creek’s campus deserves to be clean. Our staff works hard to keep T.C the best it can be. Us students should want to come to a clean environment. It’s as simple as throwing away that piece of gum in your mouth or that water bottle in your hand.
