The Greatest Showman was a great musical and should be rated at least 4/5 stars. First of all the movie is rated PG so all audiences would be able to enjoy this. The cast was picked wonderfully and all seem to have a great chemistry on screen. The story of hope and pursuing dreams demonstrated in the movie is magical and leaves you walking out ready to take over the world, all while singing a little. On the topic of music the songs are amazing. There is only one out of the many songs featured that I didn’t absolutely fall in love this. Songs like “The Greatest Show” and “The Other Side” will have you bopping along in the theatre and songs like “Never Enough” and “Rewrite the Stars” will bring you near tears with their emotional pull and beautiful sound. The movie opens dramatically with “The Greatest Show”. “The beginning where [P.T. Barnum] says “Ladies and gents this is the moment you’ve waited for” was so amazing, it made me feel like I was a part of the show” says Sophomore Jennimar Nazario.
The Greatest Showman also features stars such as Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, and Zac Efron. Hugh Jackman is the protagonist of the film as character P. T. Barnum. Jackman is an Australian actor, singer, and producer but is not a stranger to the United States. He has also been in films such as “The Wolverine” in 2013 and the “X-man” movie series.
Both Zendaya and Zac Efron can be recognized by many viewers from their experience on Disney. Zendaya started out on the TV show “Shake It Up” and then had her own show called “KC Undercover”. However she has grown up now and is working on larger films such as this one and in 2017 she was also a part of “Spiderman: Homecoming” as the character Michelle.
Zac Efron is best known for the iconic Disney musical trilogy “High School Musical”. Unlike Zendaya who is just beginning to branch out from Disney, he has been in many more mature films after his Disney days such as “Baywatch” which came out in 2017, and “Neighbors” from 2014. The association Zendaya and Efron have with Disney is probably a factor in what made the movie so popular. A wide age range is familiar, from younger children now who have been watching Zendaya for years, to teens are grew up with the songs of HSM. With them the movie brought in more people from different age groups into the theatre.
Rewriting the Stars! This photo shows a scene between characters Phillip and Anne Wheeler (portrayed by Zac Efron and Zendaya) while they sing their duet called “Rewrite the Stars”. The two disney stars share a complicated romance on screen which is portrayed throughout the song and film. They will have you rooting for them the whole movie.
A Showman’s Soundtrack!
The soundtrack for the movie is one of the key factors that makes it so great, and everyone agrees. “The soundtrack is my 2nd favorite out of every movie I have seen. My favorite song in the album is From Now On, because the of the fact that it so upbeat and powerful; the whole ensemble singing together and Jackman getting his solo moments just made the track amazing!” says Luisa Sanchez.
