Insights about Beta at TCHS

Beta is an honors club that promotes academic achievement and is mainly about helping others. The club has four pillars that each citizen must uphold. This club strives to help adolescents lead by serving others. It is the largest and independent non profit educational club for over 80 years. It was originally founded in 1934 by DR. John Harris.
One of the sponsors, Dr. Seavers, gives us insight about the club and what it’s all about. “Beta club is an honor society that focuses on community service. There are four pillars the National Beta Club has: Achievement, Leadership, Community Service, and Character.” Dr. Seavers has been the sponsor of the Beta Club since Timber Creek first opened, which was in 2001. In addition to the four pillars, she also states that the Beta Club focuses on high academics.
In order to get into Beta at Timber Creek you must have the corresponding unweighted GPA of a 3.4 or higher and you will be formally invited into the club. The sponsors of Beta will send an invitation in your email telling you what the club is about and how to accept the invitation. It will be required to submit two essays, one of them will be about a new unique club/ community service opportunity you’d like to implement. The other will be about why you think you’d make a phenomenal candidate for Beta Club.
One community service project is when the club members attended an operation santa opportunity at a preschool. Members had to deliver gifts for the kids and proceed to read the story of how the grinch stole christmas. Kids walked around and read the story as the members held up posters of each part of the story.
Officer Amore Lewis says that she would highly recommend Beta Club for students at Timber Creek. “I would definitely 100% recommend this club. It’s a national club so everyone knows about it and it’s the greatest way to acquire community service hours and you attend meetings once a month.” Beta is a great way to make friends, build up self-confidence and illustrate your academic success.
