Timber Creek Men’s Weightlifting
by Madison Chapman
Timber Creek High School is home to the outstanding men’s weightlifting team. Coach Crawford, who is in charge of the team, is experienced with over 10 years of coaching this sport and his skills show in the athletes.
The first competition is on February 8th at University High School. The athletes train hard to prepare for the event. Senior Johnny Albano who has been on the team for three years practices everyday after school. “I try to drop a weight class in order to prepare for a competition,” said Albano. There are 10 different weight classes and the athletes compete with whatever weight class they belong with. Timber Creek’s biggest competition is Colonial High School.
There is no worrying about not making the team because there are no cuts. Anyone who trys out and participates can be on the team. There are around 40-60 students on the team. Even though anyone can join, you must do your part to advance your skills. “I enjoy seeing the boys make progress,” said Coach Crawford. This is why he coaches the men’s weightlifting because he wants to see his team make progress.
All the of the athletes work hard to be on the team and Coach Crawford loves to see that. Memories are made everywhere and on the team too. I asked Coach Crawford what he finds most memorable and his response was, “The record lifts and funny mistakes.” Even though it’s hard work, there is always room for a little bit of fun. Timber Creek’s Men’s Weightlifting Team is full of great memories.
