Another win for Timber Creek as they took home the victory against the Gainesville Hurricanes on November 27th, with the final score being 70-35. The thrilling game was filled with amazing blocks, steals, and points scored. Although the crowd was quite limited, this did not minimize the excitement from the win in the slightest. “I was very happy because we got our revenge and won,” said sophomore Makayla Stokes, who plays on the Girls Varsity Basketball team.
The game started with a steal from Isabella Spence, who was able to catch the basketball thrown across the court and pass it to Sarah Duque, single handedly stealing the ball and the point away from the Hurricanes. The game followed on with Duque scoring a three-pointer after three-pointer in the first quarter. “I think Sarah Duque played wonderfully during the first quarter,” said Stokes, who plays with Duque on the Girls Varsity Basketball team. “The way she was able to pull up and make [a] contested shot was phenomenal.” These scores were followed by another three-pointer from Karishma Ortiz and a steal from Analyse Rios and soon enough, the first quarter was over and the second quarter began.
In the second quarter, the energy of the Wolves was still very present. The Wolves were in the second quarter with a healthy lead, with the score being 39-17. Senior Jasmine Cheema was able to score a three-pointer, furthering the lead of the Wolves, which was followed with a fast break by Karishma Ortiz, which is a move done by the offense that is made when the ball is quickly moved up the court in order to not give defense enough time to set up and defend.
In the third quarter, the Wolves were 49-24 to the Hurricanes. This meant the Hurricanes had to score some points for the team in order to catch up and in an attempt to do so, they were blocked by Channing Warren, who was able to push the ball out of the unsuspecting hands of the young Hurricane. “Gainesville’s team wasn’t super developed,” said Channing Warren. “So it wasn’t a super hard game.” This block was followed by a three pointer in the third quarter by Junior Analyse Rios and then two fast breaks by Rios. “I think Analyse played super well in the fourth quarter,” said Warren.
