Christian Bruey is a sports reporter for the local news station, WFTV. He has been working there for 7 years. He attended the University of Florida and was very active in sports. He stated that he realized he wouldn’t be able to continue as an athlete, so he considered other careers that still involved sports.
After graduating UF with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, Bruey reported for a minor league baseball team as well as a local TV and radio broadcasting station, both in Maryland. He did so until he was recruited by WFTV in 2010.
Bruey and Mr. Stevens, TV Production teacher, are former co-workers, so Bruey visited the class to inform students about how to get into the field of not only sports journalism, but also everyday journalism.
Some students stated that it was cool to meet Bruey and enjoyed the experience, wishing the class period had been longer. Bruey shared the perks of his job and answered any questions students had. Junior Ethan Morales said, “I want to go into the TV Production industry and he gave me more certainty about things I was wary about like working hours and jobs I have to do.” Bruey helped students understand more about the ins and outs of the industry, putting qualms about work hours at ease. “I liked the fact that he edited his own films,” explained Sophomore Donald Wright, “I liked the fact that he had crazy hours but still time for himself.”
