Theatre Troupe 6303 is taking “The Chips Are Down” to districts. Their group consists of 4 freshman girls: Lara Fernadez, Megan Alfonso, Sara Adams, and Veronica Gonzolez-Aponte. You may be wondering what
districts are. It was best explained by Fernadez herself when she said “Districts is an event where a lot of groups of people in theatre from different schools come together. The main events of districts is when the people from each school come with a “the spy” which is a small performance of some sort whether it’s a song, an acting scene or a dance, and they perform it for feedback. The thespys with the highest ratings
perform at a showcase at the end. Some thespys with high ratings move on to the next level, states.”
A lot of work goes into preparing for districts. Before you even audition, you must pick out a song and a group and do choreography. And the whole performance preparation is 100% independent. Also, the
audition process is crazy. First, you have to audition your thespy to the theater director, and before you do this, it should be memorized, and if it has choreography, it should be choreographed already. If the directors accept you to take it to districts, it is the student’s responsibility to practice with their group and perfect it. Adams said that “before auditioning, they showed their thespys to upperclassmen and other theatre teachers to get constructive criticism.”
Next, being a part of districts is a big commitment, and it entails a lot of hard work. Adams said, “There is a lot of commitment to your group/troupe. You always want to give your best to your people and perform to your fullest. Some of us cancel plans to be able to attend the state festival since it takes place during spring break.”
Many would like to know if they would suggest districts to an incoming freshman and they both answered yes enthusiastically, saying that it was an amazing experience where they have made so many memories and made lifelong friendships.

them this year. Our teachers and the whole department are such a team, districts aren’t limited to just kids
in theatre, it’s an event that anyone interested in our school can participate in,” said Adams. Photo donated.
