Getting to Know: Joshua Moody

By Cassidy Johnson

Joshua Moody is many things, but at the sum of his parts, he is honest. Kindly not brutally, Josh speaks his mind. With the rare ability to deliver the truth with a gentle hand, this senior has a radiant personality. Along with three other seniors, Josh is a student section leader at the home football games. You will see him on Fridays standing in front of the Student Section instigating chants and motivating seniors and the rest of the student body. Never tightly wound, a member of a plethora of honors societies and extracurriculars, and holding a part-time job, Moody handles the stress of the daily grind quite well.

So how were you chosen to be a student section leader?

[Jokingly] I was taken out of my house in the middle of the night and brought to a weird room and they made me swear a blood oath. [Not wanting to divulge how it really happened; wanting to keep the mystery].

And what are your responsibilities as student section leader?

Help run the twitter page, make sure senior paint-up goes smoothly, communicate with the other student section leaders, and make sure the games are always lit.

Were you honored to be chosen?

Oh yeah, it was the best thing ever! It’s so cool. Getting up in front of people is something I like to do, and being able to do it at Apopka is something really special.

So you think your personality was a big part of why you were chosen?

I think if you’re able to be as loud and have as much fun with it, then you have a good chance of being chosen.

Did you have any inclination of whether or not you would be chosen for the role?

You know, I was really hoping it would happen but you can’t be sure about anything in life. You know, never say never–Justin Bieber [laughs].

What’s your greatest memory of high school so far?

[Taking time to contemplate] I don’t know yet, I feel like it hasn’t happened yet. Talk to me after Friday [referring to the Apopka vs. Wekiva game that was played on the 27th]. That really depends on if we go to Championships or not. But I could talk about so many things; leading NHS meetings, student section that’s awesome.

What extracurriculars are you involved in?

Starting outside of school: I’m involved in Boy Scouts, I’m hoping to do my Eagle Scout project this fall, I work at Publix–I’ve worked at the Rock Springs Publix for over a year. In school: Cross Country, Water Polo next season, NHS President, which is really tight, Rho Kappa, Chorus–I’m a student director of the Apopka Chorus.

Do you have any college plans at this point?

[With certainty] UF.

And what are your career aspirations?

Hopefully, an answer coming soon.

How did it feel to be nominated for Homecoming King?

It was really humbling.

Did you campaign at all?

No.

Can you please explain your social media handle “Traplord Monty?”

[Laughs] I was at camp and there was this gnome and we named him Monty and that whole SoundCloud rapper meme was going around and TrapLord was a big thing–like A$AP Ferg, shout out to my yams– so Traplord combined with that gnome was sort of like the motif of that camp. And that’s the true story. I don’t tell people that often.
