2017 has been a very interesting year for many; between politics, pop culture, natural disasters, and more. This past year has not failed to disappoint. The year of 2017 began with the infamous “Holly-Weed” display that left many people with hope that this year may just be better than the last, and for some it was… but for others, it wasn’t. However with 2017 coming to a close, it’s time we put our graduation goggles on and start to remember the best moments of what may have been a very great or a very bad year.
Of the many responses I received when asked the question “What is your best moment of 2017?” A lot of answers revolved around music or more specifically going to see concerts. For Athena O’Brian, an eleventh grader, her favorite moment of 2017 was attending the Panic at the Disco concert. The Panic at the Disco concert was a pretty popular answer with the people I interviewed because Hannah Maestre an eleventh grader stated that her favorite moment was being able to go to the concert with her cousin. Reagan Green is a senior, “My favorite moment of 2017 is when Kodak Black released all of his songs because he is my baby even though he is ugly.”
Some of the student’s best moment of 2017 revolved around traveling to new places. “One of the best moments of 2017 so far is from over the summer when I got to go to Ohio to meet one of my internet friends,” stated Lauren Lambert a 10th grader here at Apopka. Sara Schwarz who is a junior stated that her favorite moment was going to New York during the summertime to visit her family.
What came as a surprise was that some students’ best moments of 2017 had relations to school affairs. For Olivia Reed her favorite moment of 2017 revolved around a school-based activity. “My favorite moment was the chorus variety show. It was just really fun to have all the choreography and dancing with everybody there, and it was Mrs. Boot’s last year so it was everybody coming together.” Jacob Wayland a freshman at Apopka High, said that his favorite moment was coming into high school. Tatiana Marquez is a 9th grader, “My favorite moment was probably Homecoming.” She states. Cameryn Wigmore a sophomore at Apopka High School also says that her favorite 2017 moment was Homecoming.
When asked about what her favorite moment of 2017 was Cecilia Martin had to think about it for a moment but eventually landed on a favorite activity. “My favorite moment of 2017 would be the month of October when I did Ink-tober. It’s basically like a challenge that you do every October where you have to make a new ink drawing for every day, and I really liked this year’s outcome.” Another interesting answer to the question what was your favorite moment of 2017 came from eleventh grader Skyla Griswold. “The best moment for me was being able to buy my own Disney annual pass.”
The year of two-thousand seventeen has been filled with ups and downs… but isn’t every year? One thing to keep in mind as we close out this past year and enter a new one is the little things that make the year a memorable one, and if when you read this you say, “But there is nothing good that happened to me this year!” Maybe you need to dig a little deeper and think about the nice things in life. Or maybe that should be your new year’s resolution for 2018. Just remember that the years go by too quickly to not keep at least one good memory close to heart.
