For many years, minorities have been treated like nobodies in this country. Till this day, white supremacists continuously bash minorities, saying we don’t provide anything to this country. We’ve always had to work 10 times harder to show our worth in this country. America decided to put in a racist, mental-case in office who clearly lets everyone know that minorities will never be majorities. Recently, he referred to certain African countries as “shithole countries” during a meeting on immigration reform. His Republican companions try to tell many new sources, like CNN that he never used the term “shithole.” There is no surprise that he would refer to third world countries like that, really no surprise to anything he says at all, the man is absurd.
As a Haitian, I am disappointed. As a minority, I am shaken. Can I even call this country mine? Born and raised here, but seen as if I don’t belong here. I am just as much an American as the blonde hair, the blue-eyed Aryan Norwegian immigrant that Trump desires. I want to be an International Lawyer in the future. Would I have to work ten times harder than blond hair, blue-eyed boy Johnny in my Psychology class just because I’m COLORED? The man would prefer immigrants from Norway, but I can assure you that you will find more minorities working in the bigger fields, even policy, than Norwegian immigrants, and that is fact.
I hope that in 2020, America will come to their senses, and choose a rightful candidate as our President. I hope by 2020 America will come together and realize that we cannot make the same mistake we did in 2016.
