Senior Tailgate: The Tradition Has Returned

What could possibly be better than music, burgers, and basketball? Apopka’s Senior Class Council put together an impressive showing, as around a hundred seniors showed up to the tailgate right outside of the Joe A. Sterling Gym on the tennis courts. Friends all gathered together to bond over tasty burgers and dance music which created the perfect aura for the stadium to get rocking as soon as 7:00 had hit. Alex Nguyen, a member of SCC believed that this was definitely a “successful” night. SCC sponsor Ms. Kayla Wesighan was happy that this event was able to happen, as the tailgate was supposedly going to be on Apopka’s homecoming football game, but Florida weather took its course and it was unfortunately rained out and had to be re-scheduled. Senior Class Council is looking forward to putting more events for seniors to fruition soon.

This year’s boys basketball team has rallied behind an 11-8 record as they have also accumulated an imposing 3-1 record in district play. This game was the last regular season home game so it was expected to be electric and packed with people at the stands. The basketball game had an atmosphere that was “hype” and “energetic,” Guard Santana Martin stated. The Darters took over the ball game during the second half but couldn’t hold on at the end. The West Orange Warriors were outmatched and out-hustled all game long but a couple of three-pointers put their team on top as the Blue Darters lost 77-66. They look forward to bouncing back against their city rival, the Lake Brantley Patriots in Altamonte on Friday 2/2.

*Update–AHS beat down the  Patriots in a heated matchup 63-51.
