There were a lot of major global events that happened this year and while we were taking exams, writing essays, joining new clubs, and completing volunteer hours, we were there to experience them. I interviewed students all throughout the school to hear what they thought was the most impactful event of the year.
“I think the tension between people right now is the most globally impactful thing happening right now, between warring countries, the tensions between America and North Korea and Russia, and the things that are happening in the Middle East. I feel like it’s sort of tearing people apart.”
- Sophomore Isabelle Lounsberry
“Hurricane Irma was pretty memorable. It taught us that anything could happen at any moment, and that we have to be ready to come together not as a county, or a city, not even a state, but as a country.”
- Senior Ant McFarley
“All of the stuff that has been going down with Trump and North Korea.”
- Sophomore Jordyn Wilcox
“When North Korea and South Korea decided not to fight anymore and allowed each other within their borders.”
- Sophomore Lirio Jaimez
“I feel like the kids finally stood up for what they believe in, which is why the march [for Parkland victims] was so important.”
- Junior Georgea Serwe
“The biggest event of the year was the release of the music video for Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America.’ It was epic.”
- Sophomore Kaiah Lespinades
“Hurricane Irma was a big event. A lot of people lost power and a lot of houses flooded and there was so much damage from it.”
- Junior Jessica Cardosa
“The biggest global event would probably be when when Mohammed bin Salman remakes Saudi Arabia He’s trying to make the country more modern.”
- Sophomore Ruby Nuñez
