JROTC Participates in Military Day

Every year, University High has a day dedicated to the armed forces called Military Day. It hosts different sections from all sorts of armed forces such as the Navy, Military, Marines, and Airforce.

Each service sets up a booth that have information about each of them and have an activity set up for the students to try out. Some being pull up bars and other interactive blow up machines for football and basketball.

Each service held competitions where students could win prizes such as lanyards and pens by doing a certain amount of pull-ups, sit-ups, or pushups. Depending on how many you do the prizes can differ.

The students who had J.R.O.T.C. had gone out to the courtyard to participate in Military Day. Each period the students would be walked out to the courtyard and released to do whatever they want as long as it lies within the activities held.

“It’s a good way to learn more about the military and some of the requirements needed to join,” commented junior Jaziel Caribe.

Some students don’t necessarily want to join the armed forces after high school, but because of events like these, it gives students a different look at it. They see their friends talking about it and most likely, they overhear the conversation.

The students might hear something they didn’t know about before and change their mind, and that change could be the thing that influences their future and lets them aspire to who they want to be.

“I don’t have any particular plans after high school when it comes to joining the military; however, getting to know more of this information is slowly influencing my mind. There’s no guarantee about what I’ll do, but I might listen more in the following year during Military day to see if there’s any information I might want that can convince me,” mentioned junior Luis Rivas.
