Q: How do I become a member of NHS?
A: Along with a completed Candidate Form, as well as current Junior or Senior standing, the basic requirements for consideration of membership are as follows:
- Printed documentation, from guidance, verifying previously completed service/volunteer hours. The requirement is 50 hours for juniors and 75 hours for seniors. **If hours have been submitted, but have not be logged into the system by guidance, candidates should attach a photocopy of the form submitted to guidance to their candidate packet in order to verify that the hours have been submitted.**
- Currently hold a 3.50 cumulative weighted GPA.
- Must be enrolled in at least one AP, Dual-enrollment, and/or Industry certification course.
- A one page typed essay. Topics vary by year and will be included on the application.
- A letter of character reference from an adult in the community.
- Three (3) academic teacher recommendations.
- Documentation of at least one leadership roles; held at school or in the community, since 9th grade.
NOTE: Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, only juniors will be eligible to apply for initial membership.
