Congratulations to the newly selected members of NHS! 

Today, Friday 17th, the Dr. Phillips Chapter of National Honor Society will be notifying those candidates who have been selected for membership. These notifications, also known as tapping, will be conducted by our officers who will announce the names of selected members and present them with a welcome letter and an NHS balloon. This process will only take a few minutes and should be completed by the end of 3rd period. Please congratulate these students on receiving this prestigious distinction, as members of NHS make up just 6% of the total student body at DPHS. 

Candidates are required to have service hours on record with guidance prior to the membership packet deadline (Friday September 26th). Please see below for further information…

1. Printed documentation, from guidance, verifying previously completed service/volunteer hours. The requirement is 50 hours for juniors and 75 hours for seniors.                        **If hours have been submitted, but have not be logged into the system by guidance, candidates should attach a photocopy of the form submitted to guidance to their candidate packet in order to verify that the hours have been submitted.**

Q: How do I become a member of NHS?

A: Along with a completed Candidate Form, as well as current Junior or Senior standing, the basic requirements for consideration of membership are as follows:

1. Printed documentation, from guidance, verifying previously completed service/volunteer hours. The requirement is 50 hours for juniors and 75 hours for seniors.                        **If hours have been submitted, but have not be logged into the system by guidance, candidates should attach a photocopy of the form submitted to guidance to their candidate packet in order to verify that the hours have been submitted.**
2. Currently hold a 3.50 cumulative weighted GPA.
3. Must be enrolled in at least one AP, Dual-enrollment, and/or Industry certification course.
4. A one page typed essay. Topics vary by year and will be included on the application.
5. A letter of character reference from an adult in the community.
6. Three (3) academic teacher recommendations.
7. Documentation of at least one leadership roles; held at school or in the community, since 9th grade.

 NOTE: Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, only juniors will be eligible to apply for initial membership.
